The implementation of this first version of the Biofabrication Laboratory had as its main challenges, on the one hand, the interaction in a small space (27 m2) of heterogeneous and not very compatible tasks, such as those typical of a biological laboratory (sterility and control of environmental) with tasks typical of an architecture workshop (heavy tools, release of particles into the environment); and on the other hand, the low implementation budget (US$ 1,300), which forced the use of low-cost and open source technologies to solve the environment control requirements.
